"Host Ted Koppel visits three literacy programs where volunteers are helping both kids and adults learn to read."@en
"Summary: It is estimated that one in every five Americans is functionally illiterate, something that can create enormous problems in one's personal and professional life. This programme, hosted by Ted Koppel, discusses the issues and takes a look at three case studies, all involving young people who have donated time to teach others to read and write. They are an 18-year-old who works with Literacy Volunteers of New York City; two individuals involved with Latino Youth, an alternative school for drop-outs in Chicago; and a 16-year-old boy from Atwater, California, who has taught his father to read. They and their pupils talk about what has motivated them and explain how they have benefitted."
