"This report provides a preliminary description of the spatial distribution and temporal variability of ammonium (NH4) in the Labrador Sea area. It is not a comprehensive analysis of the processes that govern regional NH4 dynamics but a comparison of observations with results from other studies, and it opens some discussion on hypotheses that help explain ammonium distribution in oceanic waters and, more specifically, the formation of the subsurface ammonium maximum. Thus, this account should provide some of the background information useful for a more thorough analysis of NH4 in the region and its biogeochemical significance.--Document."
