Database of piano chords an engineering view of harmony

"This book describes the content and the specifications of the UMA-Piano chord database, a piano database complied specifically for research purposes. Shared database in the field of music information processing are now becoming common and allow to compare different methods with the same test set. There exist several examples of instrument sound databases but most of them contain just single notes or include a very limited number of chords and few types of chords. The presented UMA-Piano chord database includes 275,040 chords with polyphony number ranging from 1 to 10, each of which recorded with three dynamics levels and three different playing styles. The recorded chords have musical meaning as well as different difficulty levels of detection."--P. 1.

  • "Database of Piano Chords: An Engineering View of Harmony includes a unique database of piano chords developed exclusively for music research purposes, and outlines the key advantages to using this dataset to further one's research. The book also describes the physical bases of the occidental music chords and the influence used in the detection and transcription of the music, enabling researchers to intimately understand the construction of each occidental chord. The online database contains more than 275,000 chords with different degrees of polyphony and with different playing styles. Together, the database and the book are an invaluable tool for researchers in this field."
