Four theoretical methods providing total system reliability bounds from sub-system test data (Kraemer, El Mawaziny-Buehler, Grubbs and Mann-Grubbs) are numerically compared through a simulation study. They are compared with respect to closeness to their normal confidence level and with respect to the (empirical) form of their statistical distribution. The effects of several factors (significance level alpha, total system reliability, truncation procedure, system structure) on these bounds are also studied. Finally, recommendations are given, based upon the statistical analysis results. A step-by-step procedure for the application of the selected bound is given. Keywords: algorithms; FORTRAN; computer programs; charts; tables(data). (Author).
