'Tis the only copy that remains in may possession, except one that a friend bespoke ... Your messenger wanted and odd volume, but I have it not ..." Included with this letter is a clipped signature of Thomson's, tipped to a sheet from an album, which has a note in an unknown hand beneath it: "Presented by Mr. Laing, Bookseller of Edinburgh. --Dec. 1832.
