Information and consultation : from compliance to performance
This report examines the structural arrangements and processes involved in informing and consulting employees. Against the background of the EC Information and Consultation Directive, which will come into force from March 2005, the authors present case studies of 16 organisations that are concerned to meet its terms and are seeking to develop effective employee consultation strategies. The report studies organisations with established arrangements, as well as those who are in the early stages of implementing processes to consult with their employees. In addition to some valuable lessons from the case study data, the report includes findings from an analysis of the 1998 Workplace Employee Relations Survey (WERS) data about the impact of direct and indirect consultation.
