The sands of Ethryn

"The ancient and prosperous land of Ethryn is dying from pervasive drought, causing King Kael to despair for his people. But during a search for water, a mighty brick tower is uncovered in the desert. Kael hopes the scroll found there will reveal the location of water sources, but when he touches the gemstone set in the altar at the apex of the tower, he falls into a strange twilight sleep and is transported back five thousand years. At the dawn of time, he is conscripted as a slave to build the tower and encounters a messenger from heaven, who tells him he has been chosen by heaven. Kael, in the past, runs from his pursuer, but finds this "hound of heaven" relentless and determined to win over his heart and appoint him to be the Keeper of the first sacred site. While a slave, Kael has visions that match the ones Ra'daf--the young archivist in Ethryn's present who is deciphering the puzzling scroll--is experiencing, and the two, across thousands of years, meet. Through Ra'daf's efforts and shared visions, she discovers how to wake the king from his sleep. And upon awakening, the king now knows where to find the water that will save his dying land."--Page 4 of cover.
