"In his forward, Professor Edward Towpik states this is not a dull book of science but a publication which, using text and illustrations, brings alive the multiple problems experienced by radium users in the early years of the 20th century.The book is divided into 12 vignettes and tells the story of radium from its discovery in 1898 to its replacement for medical and industrial purposes by artificially-produced radioactive isotopes. Each vignette has a substantial reference list and in conjunction with vignettes 11 (bibliographies of Marie and Pierre Curie) and 12 (radium books 19001950) must cover almost every publication available on radium. There are numerous black and white photographs, diagrams and illustrations throughout the text. Book is acompanied with a CD-ROM."
