Archie Shepp Band The Geneva Concert

Archie Shepp is known as one of the greatest African-American saxophonists and one of the last living giants of 20th-century jazz. Both instrumentalist and singer, Shepp is one of the most irresistible interpreters of the genre. This August 1994 performance at the New Morning club in Geneva features Shepp along with master pianist Horace Parlan, bassist Wayne Dockery, and drummer Steve McCraven. The film also includes an interview segment, "In Conversation with Archie Shepp," and a 21-minute bonus track, "Sweet Bird of Youth," recorded in Paris in 2001 - featuring Archie Shepp and his band, accompanied by the Moroccan quartet Les Gnawas de Tanger.
