  • "Cassette contains recording of semiannual dinner board meeting for New York Shakespeare Festival. Joseph Papp started the meeting by honoring board member Susan Stein Shiva, who had died in Jan. 1983, by naming a theater in her memory. It was noted that the newest board member, Bess Meyerson, was unable to attend. Discussions about NYSF shows included "Plenty" being made into film, starring Meryl Streep, the end of "Pirates of Penzance" tours, and new British-based shows such as "Fen", "Buried inside extra", and "Egyptology" were talked about at length. The segment about television shows, however, was recorded at low volume. Papp also talked about his involvement with the protest group Save the Theaters. The remainder for the meeting focused on financial matters (Chemical Bank representatives gave a presentation) and upcoming plays and events before the audio was cut abruptly."
