When it is raining, they shelter inside a small canvas tent. Along their route, they have to negotiate with the farmers whose land they traverse. As they progress, they are visited by the herd's owner Jean Paul, who delivers supplies with his truck and picks up sheep as orders for lamb come in from his customers. Pascal has been traveling this route since he was twenty, when he worked with the Italian sheperds who taught him the trade. He is convinced that the tradition will die out with the next generation. He feels that young people are no longer interested in a profession that means living and working outdoors seven days a week and in all types of weather, at low pay."
