Leif Eiricksson became the first European to land in North America when he came in a Viking ship and called the place he had found Vinland. One-thousand years later, an expedition on the Gaia, a 76-foot Viking ship replica, commemorates Eiricksson's journey by retracing his route, in a voyage intended to stimulate a spirit of adventure, and to foster environmental awareness.
