"Das Internet hat die deutsche Reise- und Tourismusbranche in relativ kurzer Zeit nachhaltig verändert. Jahrelang vorherrschende Distributionsstrukturen und Wege der Kundenansprache wurden infrage gestellt und adaptiert. Gleichzeitig entwickelte sich eine hohe Branchendynamik und Wettbewerbsintensität zwischen einer Vielzahl von Unternehmen, die durch eine unterschiedliche Herkunft und Ressourcenausstattung gekennzeichnet sind. Es stellt sich die Frage, welche Unternehmen die besten Chancen haben, sich langfristig durchzusetzen und welche strategischen Anpassungen bei einzelnen Geschäftsmodellen notwendig sind, um deren Zukunftsaussichten zu verbessern. Auf der Basis einer umfassenden Fallstudienanalyse von ausgewählten E-Commerce-Geschäftsmodellen im deutschen Tourismusmarkt sowie unter Rückgriff auf Methoden der Strategielehre untersucht Philipp Wohland Wettbewerbsvorteile von einzelnen Geschäftsmodellen und erklärt dadurch ihren Erfolg. Mit Hilfe eines Cross Case-Vergleichs arbeitet er die Wettbewerbsvorteile heraus und schätzt deren Tragfähigkeit ab. Abschließend erarbeitet er Vorschläge zur Adaption der Geschäftsmodelle."
