James Wolfe (1727-1759), a general in the British Army, died shortly after leading the successful climb from the St. Lawrence River to the "Heights of Abraham" at Quebec, which resulted in the defeat of the French defending forces under General Montcalm (in the French and Indian War, 1754-1763).
