Early Olmsteds includes James Olmsted and his brother, Richard, who were sons of James Jr. Olmsted and Jane Brishaw of Great Leighs, Essex County, England. James came to Boston in 1632. Arthur George Olmsted was born in Masonville, New York in 1827. He married Ellen Ross, daughter of David and M.A. Ross in 1860. He settled in Pennsylvania where he was active in politics.
