State and local government finance and financial management a compendium of current research
This volume is a compendium of current research in the field of state and local government finance and financial management. It was created in response to the need of both users and researchers in the area for a comprehensive picture of research work that has been undertaken since 1974 and the results of which are now, or will be soon, available. The title of this publication, spanning public finance and financial management, reflects the breadth of the research reviewed and its potential applications. Public finance involves the study of how public funds are collected, stored, and used, and the relationship of these activities to other sectors of the economy. Financial management is more immediately concerned with how the money-handling processes function as parts of governmental organizations and influence their behavior as corporate entities producing public services. The first part of this volume contains a series of 16 essays authored by experts in the field, each essay dealing with a major area of research. The inventory, part two of this volume, consists of individual listings of research projects organized by the major subject area with which they deal. Each description contains, in addition to a brief abstract, ten separate items of classified information relating to the principal investigators, products, sponsors, intended users, and research methodologies.
