"John Fontaine was born in 1693 at Taunton, Somerset, England, the son of James Fontaine (1658-1728) and Anne Elizabeth Boursiquoit Fontaine, French Huguenots. His family migrated to Ireland in 1694, where they lived at Cork, Bear Haven, and Dublin. In 1715, John voyaged to Virginia, where he hoped to buy land for his family. He remained in Virginia for four years, except for six weeks spent in New York, and made three important trips exploring the province. He returned to Dublin in 1919. He moved to London in 1920 and married Mary Magdalen Sabatier there in 1728. They had nine children, 1729- after 1742. The family moved to South Wales in 1748. He died at Cwm-Castall, near Newchurch, Carmarthenshire, Wales, in 1767. His journal covers service in the army in Spain, 1710-1713, and his voyage to Virginia, 1714-1719."
"Appendex: Fontaine genealogy: p. 129-132. Jacques (James) Fontaine was born in 1658 at Jenouillé, France. He married Anne Elizabeth Bopursiquot (d. 1721) at Barnstaple, England, in Feb. 1685/1686. They had eight children, 1686-1701. He died in January 1720/1721 at Dublin, Ireland. Children and grandchildren lived in England, Wales, and Virginia."
