http://schema.org/description

  • "This book provides a comprehensive survey of the rapidly growing field of hippocampal plasticity. The last decade has generated a multitude of studies using in vitro model systems to examine long-lasting changes at the synaptic level. At the same time, considerable concern continues to be expressed as to the significance of in vitro findings for in vivo adaptive and maladaptive changes, such as memory and epilepsy. Problems of interpreting the results from different approaches and methods to study synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus were discussed by researchers from the fields of morphology, biochemistry, neurology, psychology, pharmacology, electrophysiology and molecular biology. Accordingly, the book is divided into seven parts, focusing on problems of synaptic, transmitter and molecular mechanisms of long-term potentiation (LTP); control of hippocampal excitability; kindling and epilepsy; the LTP model and physiological plasticity."
