"Intended to give Chicanas a balanced perspective of themselves which will make them aware of their rich heritage and able to understand themselves and their community, the guide focuses on Chicana resource materials which provide a setting whereby Chicanas can become cognizant of past and present Chicano contributions in order to define the future roles that they will play. The guide covers Chicanas in history; education and the Chicana; the Chicana and society--movements, institutions, studies, and mass media; the Chicana in literature; folklore; art--what the Chicano expresses through art; and Chicanas in music. Each area includes an introduction; overall objectives; a topical outline--topics covered and required and suggested readings; an outline of concepts covered--objectives, activities, materials, required and suggested readings, and expected outcome; and a listing of several enrichment activities. It is suggested that instruction include flexibility in the selection and completion of self-directed activities and alternative approaches to the subject matter. Small group processes are recommended to provide a setting for free interaction and value clarification which should stimulate exploration of and responsibility for personal role definition.
