Respiratory muscles are severely affected, for example, by emphysema and chronic bronchitis, which are primarily diseases of the lung. It seems remarkable that, while some aspects of skeletal muscle function are investigated by molecular biology techniques to find new answers, too little is still known about respiratory muscle interaction.
