Scenes at the fair : holograph of a play, a letter dated March 29th [1887?] and two newspaper clippings from Evening transcript, Dec. 8 and Dec. 17 1887
In 1842 Miss Walter--American journalist, niece of Arthur Maynard Walter--became editor of the Boston Evening Transcript, succeeding her brother who had founded the newspaper. In 1847 she resigned, to marry William Bordman Richards. This volume appears to be copied by hand (by C.W. Walter or Fanny Locke or Geo. B. Chase?) from the title printed by James B. Dow, Boston, 1833 "to be continued" p. 24. P. 2 is a key to the persons in the drama and their real-life counterparts. The holograph letter refers to a letter of apology from Mr. Parish to Mrs. H.G. Otis. A typed letter from the dealer implies that the copy of the play was made by Mrs. Osgood, a friend of Edgar Allen Poe. The v. has a bookplate for George B. Chase. One newspaper clipping is a letter mostly about Frances Locke. The other clipping is about the fair satirized in the play.
