The mystery of Israel : an exposition of Romans 9-11
Chapters 9-11 of Paul's Epistle to the Romans have always been a puzzle. To some they seem an interruption in his argument: they can apparently be ignored, and the reader can move from the end of chapter 8 to the beginning of chapter 12 without any noticeable break. In addition to this, with the profound problem of election, emphasizing the setting aside of Israel, the earthly People of God, in spite of the promises made to them, and the introduction of a different plan. No wonder Pauls calls all this "a mystery"! Yet these chapters contain vitally important teaching, and it would be difficult to find anyone as competent to expound them as Mr. Ellison, who brings to this present exposition all the resources of his profound knowledge of the Hebrew background as well as the Biblical teaching and text. Mr. Ellison has added in this revised and enlarged edition an important chapter on Israel in the Epistle to the Ephesians.
