George Phelps (1605-1678) was born at Tewksbury, England, the son of William Phelps. He immigrated to America in 1630 and settled first at Dorchester, Massachusetts. He migrated to Windsor, Connecticut, in 1635. He married twice and was the father of eight children, 1638-1653. His descendant of the sixth generation, Eliphalet Phelps (1765-1842), was born at Lebanon, Connecticut. He and his wife, Mehitable Dodge (1766-1840), had fourteen children, 1789-1814. The family migrated to New Marlboro, Massachusetts, ca. 1790, and to northeast Ohio, in 1818. Descendants listed lived in Ohio, New York, and elsewhere.
