Community Education Handbook

This handbook provides a model approach to the implementation of community education; it outlines and discusses field-tested steps and establishes the rationale for their implementation in a sequential order. An introductory chapter that explores the unlimited potential of the community education concept is followed by a chapter that identifies steps in initiating the process. The author had devoted a separate chapter to site selection, financing community education, the role of the coordinator, coordinating community resources, and the community survey. Examples are included of a community resources profile and survey check lists. Other sections describe several types of community councils that are functioning within the framework of community education and the use of the block plan of organization as a vehicle for grassroots involvement. The concluding chapter provides a description of an actual community, its experiences, and an analysis of its community education project. Although the approach to each step needs to be the decision of each community, the author cautions the avoidance of any short cuts or omissions of these field-tested steps. (Ea).
