"A conference presented on July 11, 1987 in Indianapolis, Indiana in conjunction with the exhibition, "Art of the fantastic: Latin America, 1920-1987." The exhibit was curated by Hollister Sturges and Holliday T. Day. The common thread was the selection of work by artists who use fantastic imagery to create ambiguous themes that momentarily suspend the laws of nature. Conference presentations were made by Jacobo Borges, Aracy Amaral, Helen Escabedo, Shifra Goldman, and Hollister Sturges. A panel discussion followed with Amaral, Goldman, and Damián Bayón, moderated by Day and Sturges. A keynote address was delivered by Jean Franco."
