This thesis presents case studies of three single pre-Civil War women in the United States who joined Fourierist communities. The women were Mary Dwight who became a member of Brook Farm Phalanx in Massachusetts, Charlotte Haven a member of the Wisconsin Phalanx and Mary Paul of the North American Phalanx in New Jersey.
