The raster images have also been archived in geotiff format to ease importing of the raster imagery into various GIS software and/or image analysis software. Petroleum geologists use this research to modify models of deep-sea fan sedimentation and in turn hydrocarbon exploration techniques; while other geologists find it valuable to help find link between ancient and modern fans."
