The tall chief : the unfinished autobiography of Edward W. Wynkoop, 1856-1866
Edward Wynkoop (1836-1891) was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Kansas in 1856. He soon heard of gold in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado and traveled to Colorado where he served as sheriff for awhile. He joined the Colorado Volunteers during the Civil War and fought at the Battle of Glorieta Pass in New Mexico. He later served as Indian Agent in Colorado territory and was a businessman in his final years. Edward married Louise Brown Wakely in 1861 and they were the parents of eight children. Descendants live in Colorado and California.
