  • "This is an exact reproduction of the book Infant Care first published in 1914 by the US Government Printing Office as revised in 1929. Infant Care is one of the best selling books ever of all time. 70 Years of Best Sellers 1895-1965 states that 13,805,244 copies of Infant Care have been sold. However, more recent sources state that 52 million copies have been distributed. Major publishing companies have also reprinted Infant Care, but with modifications and changes in the text. A new and completely different edition of the book came out in 1955. Although it was also printed by the US Government Printing office, it should have been given a different name as the contents were entirely different. Not one word was the same. The book is intended to help mothers and fathers who are trying to find out the best ways to give their children a good start in life as happy, healthy youngsters. The book came into existence after the creation in 1912 of the Children's Bureau , a Division of the US Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Julia Clifford Lathrop (June 29, 1858 - April 15, 1932) was appointed by President William Howard Taft to be the first Chief of the Children's Bureau. Julia Lathrop decided that the bureau would gather and put between covers the most up-to-date information on child care."
