Letter to Felix Frankfurter

Letter originally accompanying the photograph of a manuscript deed (MSS A.2) in in the Chapter Library of Canterbury Cathedral. The deed, dating from 1072, settled the question of primacy in favor of the see of Canterbury over that of York, and was signed by William I, his consort Matilda and Lanfranc, Archbishop of Canterbury. With the letter is a typewritten summary of the deed by Samuel Bickersteth and Charles Cotton, librarians of Canterbury Cathedral Chapter Library.
