"Negative taken for September 21, 1965, Arkansas Gazette article "Traveler Begins Recounting His River Adventures," B1:2. Ernie Deane took a three-day trip from Nashville, Davidson County, to Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, on board the towboat Martin Stephens, owned by the H. and S. Transportation Company of Nashville. The journey took the towboat and barges containing petroleum products for the Lion Oil division of the Monsanto Company, on the Cumberland, Ohio, and Mississippi Rivers. Deane photographed the crew, boat, barges, and river traffic for a series of articles about the trip that were published between September 21 and October 3, 1965."
