Doch bereits 1926 wird das Fliegen wieder sein Beruf - und gleichermassen das Schreiben: 1927 Postflieger auf der Strecke Toulouse-Casablanca-Dakar (Südkurier), 1929 Direktor der Aeroposta Argentina (Nachtflug), 1938 in den USA (1939 Wind, Sand und Sterne), 1939 wird er mobilisiert als Fernaufklärer (1940 Flug nach Arras), 1939 geht er ins Exil in die USA, wo er u.a. Der Kleine Prinz und Die Stadt in der Wüste schreibt. 1944 bei einem Aufklärungsflug über Südfrankreich wird er am 31. Juli abgeschossen. Als Antoine drei Jahre alt war, gelang den Brüdern Wright der erste Flug. Wenig später gründeten sie eine Werkstatt in Le Mans, wo Saint-Exupéry mittlerweile lebte. Diese Nähe und seine Flugerfahrung prägten sein Leben."
