Autobiography of Lord F.W. Pethick-Lawrence (b.1871), a son of Alfred Lawrence and a Miss --?-- Ridge. He was educated at Eton and Cambridge, toured the world with some classmates, and then studied and became a lawyer. He married Emmeline Pethick in 1902, and legally combined the two surnames into Pethick-Lawrence. Both were active in politics, Emmeline particularly in the women's suffrage movement and Lord Pethick-Lawrence in the top Parliamentary and administrative ranks of the Labour Party. He retired in 1941, after serving in the Privy Council and later as the Secretary for India and Burma.
