The experience of things, Heiner Goebbels

Documentary about director and composer Heiner Goebbels and his 2007 performance "Stifters Dinge" ("Stifter's Things"), a musical piece in a theatrical setting without musicians or performers. Taking both inspiration and text from the 19th-century poet and painter Adalbert Stifter, Goebbels, with the help of stage designer Klaus Grünberg and the technical crew at the Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne, combines musical instruments with speeches from William S. Burroughs, Malcolm X, and Claude Lévi-Strauss along with large tubs of water and machinery, all controlled by computers and other technologies to create a piece combining musical and theatrical performance, art installation, and environmental space. This documentary focuses on the creation of the piece (each performance is original), containing interviews primarily with Goebbels and Grünberg, as well as scenes of the final performance.
