Analyzing for climatological information in the long term temperature monitoring program sea temperature time series

The long-term temperature monitoring program has produced nearshore temperature time series from a variety of sites in Atlantic Canada since 1967. In this study, these data were re-edited and summarized in time and space to monthly averages over 35 unit areas corresponding to inshore fishing zones from northern Newfoundland through the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the Bay of Fundy, each separated into shallow (depth less than 12m) and deep (dept more than 12m) ranges. The time series of monthly temperatures were then used to derive monthly mean temperatures, variance and anomalies; to determine the correspondence with sea-surface temperature climatology for patterns of variance; and for spatial scales of correlation.
