This documentary illustrates the Pax volunteer program for conscientious objectors which ran from 1950 to 1975. Pax Service began as a way to address the housing crisis in Europe after the destruction of World War II. The program was one of the alternative service programs available to conscientious objectors after the U.S. began a military draft in 1950. The draft continued from the Korean War through the Cold War and Vietnam War eras. This documentary is about the 1,200 young volunteers who performed relief and development work in 40 countries around the world, many paying their own way. It includes a discussion guide and additional bonus content: an extended version of the broadcast, a Pax reunion tour of Europe, "A Day in Pax" slide show, and more. This recording was produced with the assistance of many former Pax volunteers, the Mennonite Central Committee, Church of the Brethren, and Faith & Values Media.
