Correspondence, papers, proceedings, and printed material relating to the Rochester Conferences on High Energy Physics, which he founded, from the first conference in 1950 through the 1970 conference; a small amount of material on the Shelter Island Conferences on the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics under Robert Oppenheimer's leadership (1947-1949), which preceded the Rochester Conferences; and a much larger amount on the Moscow Conference on High Energy Particles (1956) and the International Theoretical Physics Conferences on Particles and Fields in Rochester (1967). The collection also contains Marshak's papers (1953-1972) on the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) and its Commission on High Energy Physics which he initiated; his papers on United States-Soviet scientific relations (1956-1966); the transcript of an oral history intone by Charles Weiner of the American Institute of Physics with Marshak in 1970; and several articles by Marshak on the Rochester Conferences.
