"James Lipton hosts an evening of discussion with actor Sarah Jessica Parker. Parker speaks about her upbringing in Ohio, in a large, culturally engaged family headed by her mother and her stepfather; her childhood career in show business; her family's move to New York; her education; and her transition, nurtured by her work on the stage, from being a child performer to an adult actor. Parker examines her roles in such motion pictures as Footloose (1984), Honeymoon in Vegas (1992), Ed Wood (1994), Miami Rhapsody (1995), and State and Main (2000), written and directed by David Mamet. She discusses returning to the stage in the Off-Broadway production of A. R. Gurney's play Sylvia (1995), and in the Broadway revivals of How to succeed in business without really trying (1995) and Once upon a mattress (1996); and her role as Carrie Bradshaw in the popular cable television series Sex and the city, for which she is also executive producer. A brief question and answer session with Parker and the Actors Studio master's degree students concludes the program."
