http://schema.org/description

  • "Intended as an update and supplement to the comprehensive The Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, v.45 of 1986, this volume and its companion, Part A (they are sold separately) contain essays that describe the recent research and discoveries in the field concerning the synthesis, reactions, and applications of mononuclear oxazoles, oxazolones, oxazolines, and chiral bis(oxazolines). Part B contains five chapters, with oxazolones defined by the structure of the individual regioisomer in the initial three chapters. These are the chapters on 2(3H)-oxazolones and 2(5H)-oxazolones by Kunieda and Matsunaga of Kumamoto U. in Japan, 4(5H)-oxazolones by D.C. Palmer of Johnson & Johnson, and 5(2H)-oxazolones and 5(4H)-oxazolones by Cativiela and Diaz-de- Villegas of the U. of Zaragoza in Spain. The use of asymmetric methodology using monooxazoline ligands with 2-oxazolines is described by G.S.K. Wong and W. Wu of Schering-Plough. The final chapter, on the recent developments in asymmetric synthesis using chiral bis(oxazolines), is by three chemists at the U. of Illinois at Chicago. Each chapter includes a exhaustive list of references. New material from patent literature has been included in the analysis. Annotation: 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)."
