Improving objective tests in science
Discussed are selected factors related to improving science tests. Section 1 deals with (1) the role of objectives in science teaching and testing, (2) the role of tests and testing, (3) forms and kinds of tests, and (4) guideposts for preparing tests. Section 2 discusses methods of testing for specific objectives at various grade levels. Included are (1) recognizing and appraising assumptions, (2) understanding of scientific methodology including the formulation and testing of hypotheses, data analysis, and theory comparison, and (3) selecting and preparing reading passages for first grade, third grade, upper elementary grades, junior high school level, and secondary school level.
