"De Córdoba, who was secretary to the Captain General of Puerto Rico, 1816-1836, continued the history of Puerto Rico where Abbad left off and provided a rich resource of information on the island for the years 1783 to 1831. His work, however, is less than objective in its evaluation of Spanish rule during the period under study, and he attempts to justify continued Spanish control over Puerto Rico. De Córdoba was an eye-witness of some events described in the book. His narrative includes vivid descriptions and commentaries about historical personalities, based on his own personal experiences. He also emphasizes economic and statistical data about the island. The last chapter contains a useful list of Puerto Rican governors and religious leaders (from the Taino Indians until the early 1830s). The first volume of this six-volume set was published in the 1866 edition of Iñigo Abbad y Lasierra's Historia geográfica, civil v natural."
