Convergence

Genealogical diagrams often take on a branching pattern like that of the limbs of a tree. My sculptural exploration of the genealogical form reflects on various branching systems found in the natural world. Distinct elements converge into one, or the one can be seen as separating into two. This process does not serve to divide or isolate any single element; rather each part remains integral to the whole. The importance of the individual broadens as the process of expansion continues.

  • "The works in this exhibition apply the described pattern to various images, processes and materials, thus building up means by which genealogy can be visualized. In each piece, diverse elements have been assembed and joined. The separate elements retain a quality of individuality even when incorporated into the greater whole."@en
