"THE AIM OF THIS THESIS IS TO ANALYSE TIME BOTH AS A STRUCTURAL ELEMENT OF NARRATION AND AS NARRATIVE THEME THROUGH THE FICTIONAL TEMPORAL EXPERIENCE OF THE CHARACTERS. IN THE SHORT STORIES UNDER STUDY, TIME FUNCTIONS ACCORDING TO TWO HETEROGENEOUS MODALITES WHICH, ON THE NARRATIVE LEVEL, DETERMINE TWO PLANES : THAT OF THE NATURAL AND FAMILIAR WORLD WHERE TIME OBEYS THE LAWS OF IRREVERSIBILITY AND THAT OF THE SUPERNATURAL OR MYTHICAL WORLD WHERE TIME IS REVERSIBLE. THE WORLD OF REVERSIBILITY WHERE THE THREE TENSES OF TIME (PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE) EXCHANGE VALUES, HAS AFFINITIES WITH THAT OF DREAM AND MODES OF REPRESENTATION (BOOKS, PAINTINGS, MUSIC, ETC...) WHILE THE WORLD OF REVERSIBILITY CONSTITUES THE LEVEL OF REALITY ON THE FIRST LEVEL OF FICTION. THESE PLANES INTERLOCK AND INTERPENETRATEN, GIVING RISE TO A NARRATIVE UNIVERSE IN WHICH THE REAL AND THE IMAGINARY, THE FAMILIAR AND THE SUPERNATURAL CAN NO LONGER BE SEEN AS DISTINCT AND SEPARATE CATEGORIES. THIS DOVETAILING GENERATES A RICH VARIETY OF DOUBLING AND MIRROR EFFECTS AFFECTING ALL THE NARRATIVE INSTANCES, HIGHLIGHTING AND ENACTING THE ENUNCIATION IN THE LITTERANCE. THIS COMPLEX PLAY ON REVERSIBILITY IS REVEALED BY MEANS OF FIVE MODES, THE ANALYSIS OF WHICH FORMS THE SKELETAL FRAMEWORK OF THE THESIS : INVERSION, PRESCIENCE, TEMPORAL UBIQUITY, CIRCULAR TIME AND THE ETERNAL PRESENT."
"L'OBJET DE LA THESE EST L'ANALYSE DU TEMPS COMME DONNEE STRUCTURANTE DE LA NARRATION ET COMME MATIERE NARRATIVE A TRAVERS L'EXPERIENCE TEMPORELLE FICTIVE DES PERSONNAGES. DANS LES CONTES ETUDIES, LE TEMPS FONCTIONNE SELON DEUX MODALITES HETEROGENES QUI, AU NIVEAU NARRATIF, DETERMINENT DEUX PLANS : CELUI DU MONDE NATUREL ET FAMILIER OU LE TEMPS OBEIT A LA LOI DE L'IRREVERSIBILITE ET CELUI DU MONDE SURNATUREL OU MYTHIQUE OU LE TEMPS EST REVERSIBLE. LE MONDE DE LA REVERSIBILITE, OU LES TROIS TEMPS DU TEMPS ECHANGENT LEUR VALEUR, EST EN AFFINITE AVEC LE REVE ET LA REPRESENTATION (LIVRES, TABLEAUX, MUSIQUE, ETC...) TANDIS QUE CELUI DE LA REVERSIBILITE CONSTITUE LE NIVEAU DE LA REALITE OU PREMIER NIVEAU DE FICTION. CES PLANS S'IMBRIQUENT, S'INTERPENETRENT, DONNANT LIEU A UN UNIVERS NARRATIF OU LE REEL ET L'IMAGINAIRE, LE FAMILIER ET LE SURNATUREL NE SONT PLUS DES CATEGORIES DISTINCTES ET SEPAREES. CETTE IMBRICATION GENERE DES JEUX DE DOUBLES ET DE REFLETS QUI AFFECTENT TOUTES LES INSTANCES DE LA NARRATION ET QUI METTENT EN SCENE L'ENONCIATION DANS L'ENONCE. CES JEUX DE LA REVERSIBILITE SE LIVRENT A TRAVERS CINQ MODALITES DONT L'ANALYSE CONSTITUE L'OSSATURE DE LA THESE : L7INVERSION, LA PRESCIENCE, L'UBIQUITE TEMPORELLE, LE TEMPS CIRCULAIRE ET LE PRESENT ETERNEL."
