This document focuses on classroom discipline and how the teacher can maintain an environment that will optimize appropriate learning. Part 1 defines classroom discipline. Part 2 discusses classroom misbehavior and describes a number of classroom management techniques. Part 3 offers suggestions for control techniques. Part 4 discusses techniques for gaining control over an entire class by successfully disciplining one of its leaders. Part 5 presents behavior modification using five principles of behavior change. Part 6 looks at abrasive and deprivative punishment and its side effects on the learning process. Part 7 compares the use of reward and punishment as disciplinary measures in the classroom. Part 8 presents a description of William Glasser's therapeutic approach to classroom discipline. The appendixes include an evaluation device for the classroom teacher and a bibliography. (Js).
