Grasping the nettles clearing the path to financial services reform in Canada
This Commentary aims at bridging some of the gaps in understanding about the role of the financial system that seem to separate policymakers from the public at large, in the hope of creating a greater sense of urgency than now exists about certain pressing problems that beset the system. This study discusses the political and regulatory impasse that exists with regard to merger activities involving chartered banks, and the difficulties that the absence of a single national regulator and of a separate and effective enforcement agency currently create for the country's securities markets.--Includes text from document.
