  • "This collection contains primarily business letters from Joseph Pennell to colleagues in arts administration. Most letters discuss exhibitions, reproductions of his works, travel arrangements, and proposals for magazine articles, lectures, and exhibits. There is some mention of his works in progress. Other letters discuss politics of various clubs of which Pennell was a member, and three newspaper articles recount the circumstances surrounding Pennell's disassociation with these clubs. A photo of Pennell and two of his sketches are also included. Of particular interest are a manuscript article entitled, "The Art of Charles Keene," and a letter containing a speech addressed to a Philadelphia art club on the subject of the status of art, its audience, and its patronage in Philadelphia."
