A Resource Guide for Secondary School Teaching. Planning for Competence
This six-part resource guide is designed to help the teacher understand the skills of inquiry, to know how to mold the bits of information into a structural framework, and to be an expert in the technique of self-instruction. Part one, "Orientation to Secondary School Teaching," looks at perceptions about the teaching/learning situation and helps to establish goals and work toward the development of those perceptions. Part two, "Planning for Instruction," provides various plans and forms for short- and long-range planning to assist in organizing the what and how of teaching. Part three, "Choosing and Implementing Instructional Strategies," discusses available instructional strategies and provides criteria for selecting a strategy. Part four, "Classroom Management, Interaction, and Discipline," presents some guidelines for classroom management and for constructive group morale and discipline and presents case studies for classroom discussion. Part five, "Evaluation of Performance and Achievement," deals with techniques of evaluating teacher performance and introduces two types of evaluation of student progress. Part six, "Teacher Responsibilities beyond the Classroom," identifies teacher responsibilities that extend beyond those of awareness and skill in the implementation of various classroom instructional strategies. (Pd).
