Looking for leadership : women's empowerment and Canada's new role in Afghanistan
"In less than one year's time Canada will withdraw its military forces from Afghanistan, ending its almost nine-year security mission. But Canada's role in Afghanistan long predates its military presence. Years before the fall of the Taliban, Canada was funding development to fight the crushing poverty that has resulted from years of conflict. The people of Afghanistan still need Canada, and Canada has an obligation to see through its commitments. The questions, then, are these: What are the greatest non-military needs in Afghanistan today? Which of these needs is Canada, with its experience and resources, best equipped to address?"
