The opal seekers

When poverty threatens to destroy Trella's family, she is left with no choice: her brother-in-law, Brodie, must leave home so that there is one less mouth to feed. Brodie travels to Dublin and thence to Australia. In Brisbane he secures a job at Fairlea cattle station but soon finds an excuse to go opal mining. Back in Ireland, Trella and her son have been forced to sell their home and in desperation they set sail for Australia. But Brodie's obsession with opals is to lead to tragedy.
