Maze of moonlight

Set two generations after the events of Strands of Starlight , the second Strand novel finds the damaged baron of Aurverelle struggling to overcome his heritage, his failures, and the forces that threaten to tear Adria apart Christopher delAurvre, baron of Aurverelle, went missing for more than three years after the disastrous crusade of Nicopolis. With the Great Schism stirring tensions across the land, and rival factions poised for battle, the sudden reappearance of the baron, apparently driven mad with defeat and wandering, sets the entire region on edge. Christopher’s one hope is Vanessa, a young seer barely clinging to life after a terrible assault by a papal emissary. In Vanessa, Christopher finds a kindred spirit, and he sees her healing and potential salvation as linked with his own. As he slowly reclaims his sanity, assisted by the mysterious harper Natil, Christopher learns that bands of mercenaries left unemployed by the end of decades of European warfare are converging on Adria, determined to storm and plunder its cities. With the help of the few remaining Elves—to whom, as Christopher discovers, Vanessa owes her near-miraculous recovery, as well as any hope of a future life—he must stand as the last bulwark against those who wish to destroy what good remains in the land. Maze of Moonlight is the second book of the Strand Novels, which begin with Strands of Starlight and continue with Shroud of Shadow .
